„Wir alle kennen diese eine Person, der es scheinbar immer schlechter geht als allen anderen – zumindest in ihren eigenen Augen“, erklärt Emily Paschke. „Focus“ handelt davon, eine Freundschaft mit dieser Person zu beenden, weil die Zeit mit ihr zu anstrengend geworden ist. Und in diesem Song sind wir weder untröstlich noch verletzt. Wir sind verärgert, wir sind wütend und ja – wir sind kleinlich. Während unsere Parts im Song diese Kleinlichkeit perfekt darstellen, ist The Narrator die perfekte Stimme, um die Wut zu kanalisieren und zu verkörpern.“
